The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson recently announced that all new homes and buildings such as supermarkets and workplaces, as well as those undergoing major renovation, will be required to install electric vehicle charge points from next year, under new government legislation.
The government claim up to 145,000 extra charge points will be installed across England each year, as we head towards 2030, the year in which the sale of new petrol and diesel cars will end in the UK.
So far to date through government grants that are currently available over 250,000 home and workplace charge points have been installed. Now is a perfect time to consider having an electric charge point installed at your home and a plan in place for a charging infrastructure at your workplace.
With the majority of charging happening at home, under this new legislation people will have the assurance that if they purchase a new home, they will already be geared up for a electric vehicle future.
This new legislation may also encourage more people to venture into the EV world as it will mean more and more chargers will become available. Currently one of the major barriers to people purchasing an electric vehicle is the lack of charging infrastructure. This new legislation will over the next few years and leading up to 2030 will certainly help to address those concerns people have.

Contactless payment options and the introduction of more rapid chargers throughout the UK will make life easier for EV drivers travelling around the country.
