Today is the day we celebrate the planet and encourage people to be more environmentally friendly. There are many ways in which we can do our bit to help towards combatting climate change and greener motoring is one of those.
Our latest blog explains why providing ev chargepoints at your business or location, can give you many benefits that boost your reputation and income.
There is no doubt that electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) are increasing when it comes to motorists choosing a new vehicle. According to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) 39,315 new EV’s were registered in March alone. However, the take up of EV chargers isn’t following suit. Just under 2000 additional public ev chargepoints were installed in March, meaning 29% more new EV’s were sold in March than new chargers installed.
Last year there was one public charger for every 16 plug-in vehicles now that figure is at one for every 32. We have listed reasons why you should consider installing chargepoints, not all of these will benefit your business but they may be reasons that you haven’t previously thought about.
Demonstrates your environmental commitment
As part of your businesses environmental pledge, installing ev chargers is a great way to demonstrate your commitment to the environment. It provides employees and visitors the opportunity to charge their vehicles whilst at your site and therefore highlights to them the importance of driving vehicles with zero tailpipe emissions.
If you are a business that has a fleet of vehicles that are all plug-ins, it further demonstrates your commitment to greener motoring. Many companies are adopting this strategy and insisting that their fleet of cars have some form of battery charge capability. Installing chargepoints within the business imposes this strategy to employees that have a company car.
Supports your employees
There may be individuals in an organisation who have purchased a BEV or PHEV and are looking for access to a chargepoint. They may not be able to afford to install one at their property straight away or don’t have access to a private driveway or garage and therefore a home chargepoint isn’t feasible. Having the peace of mind, they have access to a chargepoint at work may encourage more employees to purchase a BEV and PHEV as their next vehicle. These employees will all think positively about their employer as they are making steps towards tackling climate change and looking at ways to invest in renewable energy.
Additional revenue stream
Many currant chargepoints on the market come with OCPP compatibility, meaning they can be assigned to back-office software that gives the chargepoint owner control on who uses it, for how long and for what cost. Adding a tariff to your chargepoints won’t necessarily bring in huge revenue streams but what it will do, over time is help pay back some of the initial investment made and assist with the energy bills.
Businesses within the leisure and hospitality sector will see a huge benefit from adding tariffs to their chargepoints, due to the length of time visitors will spend at their location and the number of motorists that attend each day. The back-office software available gives chargepoint owners the flexibility of charging different rates at different times of the day, week and year, to really take advantage of earning additional revenue at busier times.
Great way to advertise your business
If you are looking for ways to generate interest and visitors to your business advertising the chargepoints you have available is a great way to bring in new customers/visitors. Apps such as zap-map provide EV drivers with information on chargepoints near to them, along with the type of charger on offer.
A business may choose to advertise their chargepoints on this application, this will then alert people who use this app that a charger is available to them. It’s free to advertise your charger on zap-map and can be done by making your charger ‘public’ within the back-office software you have access to. If you own a hotel/guesthouse, restaurant or visitor attraction, advertising that you have ev chargepoints at your location may sway the decision of a family that own a BEV or PHEV into visiting your restaurant or hotel as appose to another, as they know they have access to a chargepoint throughout the duration of their stay.
Providing this USP on your website will also attract visitors who may be wanting to visit your business but are looking for local chargepoints nearby. Someone who runs a holiday park for example may attract additional visitors who were contemplating booking a week’s stay. They then see that the holiday park has EV chargepoints on site, this may confirm to them that’s the park to visit as they can charge their vehicle for the duration of their stay without having to find a local point in an area, they are unfamiliar with.
